• I believe the Bears offense can turn things around despite the rough start. The talent is there, it just needs some fixes.
• The O-line, especially at tackle and center, has to give Fields more time. Cutting down penalties would also help.
• Fields has all the tools to succeed, but he needs better protection to go through his progressions. His processing speed is a bit slow.
• The playcalling seems questionable at times. Offensive coordinator Getsy should focus more on fundamentals instead of gimmicks.
• The skill positions are decent but need some adjustments. More deep shots to WR Moore, targets for WR Mooney, and get WR Claypool more involved.

Brent C. here, time to break down just how we can Fix the Bears Offense..

As a diehard Chicago Bears fan, I’m optimistic we can turn around our sputtering offense this NFL season. Our 0-2 start has been rough, but with some adjustments, this team has the talent to succeed.

It all starts with better offensive line play. The O-line, especially our tackles and centers, must give quarterback Justin Fields more time in the pocket. Fields has a cannon arm and prototypical size at 6’3” and 230 pounds, reminiscent of Bears great Jay Cutler. But Fields tends to process slowly and needs protection to find receivers downfield. Penalty-prone tackles like Braxton Jones must cut down on false starts and holdings that negate big plays.

New offensive coordinator Luke Getsy also needs to focus on fundamentals over gimmick plays. Lean on our solid run game behind backs Khalil Herbert and David Montgomery. Use play action to hit explosive receivers like Darnell Mooney and D.J. Moore on deep routes. Getsy’s questionable screen passes have been ineffective so far.

In the passing game, underutilized wideout Mooney should see more targets across the middle to use his speed. Free agent pickup Chase Claypool is a disappointing run blocker so far but his 6’4” size offers red zone potential. More two tight end sets with Cole Kmet and Robert Tonyan could help in protection and provide outlets for Fields.

With improved O-line play and better use of offensive weapons, Fields can become a quality NFL starter in his third year. His natural arm strength and athleticism are clear. The Bears offense can turn the corner in 2023 if we start strong up front and play to our quarterback’s strengths. With smart adjustments, Fields and this offense have the raw skills to finally finish drives in the red zone. There are reasons for us loyal Bears fans to be hopeful going forward this NFL season if the offense can realize its potential.
