Tomlin Loves Fields Rumor Doubted – What’s Real Price for Bears QB? 🤔

Tomlin Loves Fields Rumor Doubted – What’s Real Price for Bears QB? 🤔

Here’s the Quick -n- Dirrty..

  • Rumors that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin loves Justin Fields, but Bears fans skeptical of trading Fields for just a 1st round pick.
  • Mitch Trubisky released by Steelers, likely a backup QB going forward after failing to establish himself as a starter.
  • Raiders and former Bears OC Luke Getsy could target Bears QB2 Trevor Siemian, who Getsy favored in schemes.
  • Top WR prospects in draft include Marvin Harrison Jr, Romain Dungey, Malik Neighbors and others as possible Bears targets.
  • Bears President Kevin Warren offered praise for Fields, so trade rumors may quiet if higher-ups back Fields as franchise QB.

Hey there, fellow Bears Fans!

Now…

The Chicago Bears offseason is in full swing, with rumors constantly swirling around the future of young quarterback Justin Fields. Speculation peaked recently with reports that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is enamored with Fields’ talent, perhaps envisioning him taking over long-term for the retired Ben Roethlisberger. A video clip resurfaced showing Tomlin encouraging Fields at his pro day, stoking beliefs that the Steelers could make a blockbuster trade offer to land the Bears QB1.

Bears fans have reason for skepticism, however, that Pittsburgh would actually pay the premium price required to pry Fields away. Their 20th overall pick in the 2023 draft alone seems unlikely to get a deal done. It would likely take multiple first-rounders plus additional assets for Chicago to even consider parting with their hopeful franchise quarterback. While the connection makes for juicy rumors, Bears Nation needs to see far more substance before believing Fields will actually be moved.

In other speculation, former Bears backup QB Mitch Trubisky is searching for a new home after being released by the Steelers with one year remaining on his contract. Trubisky originally arrived in Pittsburgh hoping to rebuild his career after struggling in Chicago, but was quickly supplanted last season by rookie Kenny Pickett. His time as a starter appears over, with Trubisky resigned to picking from backup jobs in free agency.

Intriguingly, one potential suitor is the Las Vegas Raiders, now led by former Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. Despite unsuccessful results in Chicago, Getsy seemed to favor Trubisky substitute Nick Foles and his short passing game. Getsy could aim to pair this familiar scheme with Trubisky’s skills to try boosting the Raiders offense. Another Bears connection there is third-string QB Trevor Siemian, who Getsy involved often during his play calling tenure.

Shifting to the draft, the Bears need playmakers regardless of who is playing quarterback. Wide receiver is a major priority, with several enticing options if they keep the 2nd overall pick. Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. leads the pack as the unanimous top WR prospect and potential top 5 selection. After him, talents like Washington’s Rome Odunze and LSU’s Malik Nabers could be in play for Chicago’s pick.

Odunze offers an enormous catch radius at 6-foot-3 and Nabers is a big bodied deep threat in the mold of former Panthers star D.J. Moore. Other possibilities include Florida State’s Ontaria Wilson and LSU’s Kayshon Boutte if the Bears opt for speed over size. GM Ryan Poles will have no shortage of talented receivers to choose from as he looks to give Fields or any QB far better weapons.

Most promising for Fields enthusiasts are recent comments from Bears President Kevin Warren offering high praise of the young quarterback. Warren stated he is very impressed by Fields’ skill set and potential, and is excited to see him continue developing. He backed it up by saying he hasn’t evaluated many players capable of making the throws Fields can.

Such belief from the highest ranks of Bears management suggests that trading Fields is unlikely barring a massive offer. Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus have been openly supportive of building around Fields as well. While the team will still do due diligence on all options under center, Warren’s faith hints strongly that Fields will remain the guy in Chicago.

The Bears have critical decisions upcoming not just at quarterback, but across the roster. All signs indicate they will invest further in Fields’ future rather than hit reset again. Trubisky’s days in the Windy City appear long gone, while a talented rookie receiver could be catching passes come next season. No matter how spicy trade and free agency rumors get, the North side’s plan seems centered on growth and continuity moving forward.

Bear Down Bears fans! And as always… PEACE!
