Here’s the Quick -n- Dirrty..
- The Chicago Bears (3-7) are coming off a win against Carolina and now face the Detroit Lions (7-2), who are having a great season so far.
- The return of QB Justin Fields from injury should help the Bears offense, but they need to contain Lions RBs D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams.
- The Lions have a strong passing offense led by QB Jared Goff, so the Bears defense needs to pressure him and force turnovers.
- Penalties have hurt the Bears offense, especially the offensive line, so they need to play cleaner football.
- It will come down to coaching and game plans – can Matt Eberflus and the Bears defense slow down the Lions, and can Luke Getsy open up the playbook more for Justin Fields and the offense?

Hey there, fellow Bears Fans!
As a diehard Chicago Bears fan, I’m excited yet anxious for our upcoming Week 10 divisional matchup against the surging 7-2 Detroit Lions. This game will be a true test for Justin Fields and our 3-7 Bears as we try to pull off an upset victory on the road.
After eeking out a win against the Panthers, Chicago has a chance to gain ground in the NFC North with a win over Detroit. But it won’t be easy against a Lions team led by veteran QB Jared Goff and star RB D’Andre Swift. For the Bears to have a chance, they’ll need big games from Fields, Khalil Herbert, and Cole Kmet on offense and pressure from Roquan Smith and our D-line on defense.
Fields’ Return Crucial for Struggling Bears Offense
All eyes are on Justin Fields as he returns from a shoulder injury that sidelined him the past four games. With the thumb on his throwing hand now healed, Fields needs to regain his grip and push the ball downfield to WR Darnell Mooney and new top target in DJ Moore. The Bears’ subpar passing game misses the dual threat ability of Fields. If his shoulder allows, his scrambling could help neutralize Detroit’s solid linebackers. Chicago is averaging just 323 yards per game, while the Lions gain nearly 400. Fields could be the difference maker if Luke Getsy opens up the playbook.
Containing Swift & Jamaal Williams Key for Bears Defense
While the Bears allow only 76 rushing yards per game, Detroit edges them out at 79 yards. With Roquan Smith and Brisker manning the middle, Chicago’s front seven must focus on slowing down the 1-2 punch of Swift and Jamaal Williams. Both Lions backs excel at breaking tackles and gaining yards after contact. Gap discipline will be crucial, especially with Herbert returning from injury. If Khalil regains his early season form, the Bears’ backfield trio of Herbert, Johnson, and Foreman can grind it out against Detroit.
Bears Must Pressure Goff, Force Turnovers
The biggest defensive key will be generating pressure on Goff and turning him over. Though sack machine Robert Quinn was traded, new addition Montez Sweat can wreak havoc off the edge. If the Bears D-line of Justin Jones, Angelo Blackson and Trevis Gipson collapses the pocket up the middle, Goff becomes prone to mistakes. With his limited mobility, defensive coordinator Eberflus should dial up blitz packages to force errant throws. Eddie Jackson and Jaquan Brisker have the ballhawking ability to generate multiple interceptions if Goff makes bad reads under duress.
Cutting Down Penalties & Protecting Fields is Crucial
Far too often, promising Bears drives have been derailed by offensive holding calls and false starts. Chicago averages nearly 70 penalty yards per game. The O-line especially needs to play a clean game against a fierce Lions pass rush featuring Aidan Hutchinson. If Teven Jenkins and a returning Cody Whitehair can win their individual matchups, Fields will finally have time to hit secondary targets. He and Mooney burned the Lions last year, and their connection could thrive again if the line gives Fields a clean pocket. Red zone efficiency will also be key for Luke Getsy’s unit.
Can Eberflus Out-Coach Dan Campbell?
Though the Bears have more talent than their record indicates, much of their success rides on coaching. Matt Eberflus needs to have his defense ready and disguise coverages to confuse Goff. Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy must also scheme up plays to maximize Fields’ arm strength and get Cole Kmet involved over the middle against Detroit’s suspect linebackers. On the other sideline, Dan Campbell has his Lions playing inspired football. To pull off a tough road upset, Eberflus and Getsy need to win the chess match against Detroit’s staff.
This divisional matchup against Detroit will test the Bears’ progress under a new regime. Though the Lions are clear favorites at home, Justin Fields gives Chicago a fighting chance if he can recapture his early season form. If Eberflus and Getsy can out-coach Detroit and the O-line buys Fields time, the Bears just may leave Ford Field with their biggest win yet. As a diehard fan, I’m cautiously optimistic for an upset!
Bear Down Bears fans! and as always… PEACE!
