Hey there, fellow Bears Fans!

Now…

Bears fans, this is your man Brent C. back with the latest 2024 NFL draft preview. With the Super Bowl set featuring former Bears Anthony Miller and Deon Bush, I want to congratulate them but also tell current Bears like Roquan Smith to keep their spirits up for next season. There is always next year!

Now looking ahead to the offseason, the college prospect showcase games are underway, namely the Senior Bowl and Shrine Bowl. I’ll highlight some intrigue names that could bolster the Bears roster based on needs and the vision of our new coaching staff.

First at the Senior Bowl, a massive center prospect jumped out – Jackson Powers Johnson from Oregon. At 6’3″ and 334 pounds with a huge frame, he would immediately provide run and pass protection up the middle if the Bears draft him. For perspective, he weighed in even larger than most NFL interior offensive linemen! Despite his shorter arms and wingspan, he helped pave the way for a breakout season by Oregon QB Bo Nicks. So the Bears have to love his strength and physicality.

In addition, with the Bears only have Cole Kmet under contract for 2024 at tight end, there are a couple senior tight ends that impressed scouts with their versatility and measurables. First, Brevin Spann-Ford from Minnesota is known as a crushing run blocker but also excels in the red zone at 6’6″. With 10 inch hands and 80+ inch wingspan, he can catch almost anything thrown his way. He would perfectly complement Kmet’s receiving prowess with rugged blocking.

Penn State’s Theo Johnson is more receiver-first at the position but has filled in blocking too for the Nittany Lions. At 6’6″ and 257 pounds, he lacks bulk but not catch radius with over 80 inches in length. Under new OC Shane Waldron, we know tight ends will be featured in many personnel groupings and formations. Both Spann-Ford and Johnson could be day two or three draft steals.

Finally, new head coach Matt Eberflus will look to replenish the Bears defensive front. A natural fit is defensive end Darius Robinson who offers ideal size at 6’5″, 286 pounds and insane 84.5 inch wingspan. With 10.5 inch hands, he can engulf smaller offensive tackles. His long arms and heavy hands allow him to control opponents while rushing the quarterback or stuffing the run. Robinson would provide pass rush upside and run defense immediately as a rookie.

In summary, the upcoming draft has intriguing prospects to fill holes at center, tight end, and defensive end for the Monsters of the Midway. Prospect development will only accelerate under Eberflus and his staff. As we learn the Measurables like height, weight, arm length are all there for Jackson Powers Johnson, Brevin Spann-Ford, Theo Johnson, and Darius Robinson. The Bears simply need to draft them to upgrade the roster this offseason at key positions. Their physical gifts jump off the page. Combine that with coaching to polish fundamentals and technique, the Bears could return to playoff contention soon if they hit on these prospects.

Bear Down Bears fans! and as always… PEACE!
