Hey there, fellow Bears Fans!

The Chicago Bears secured their second straight win by defeating the Detroit Lions 28-13. The defense set the tone, playing very well and keeping the Lions’ offense in check for most of the game. Defensive end Montez Sweat was a standout, leading by example and pressuring Lions QB Jared Goff. Rookie defenders Jervon Dexter and Zach Pickens also provided a spark, getting significant playing time and bringing pressure on Goff.

The offense started off hot on their first drive, showing balance with runs and passes to different weapons like tight end Cole Kmet. But the play calling from offensive coordinator Luke Getsy became more questionable as the game went on. After establishing the run with Dante Foreman early, the rotation of running backs didn’t make sense and Foreman was underutilized. Getsy also called too many ineffective screens and didn’t get top receiver Darnell Mooney enough targets in the first half.

Fortunately, quarterback Justin Fields made some big plays to help the offense. This included using the hard count to draw the Lions offsides and take a shot deep to DJ Moore for a touchdown. Fields’ legs were also a weapon, as his running ability opened things up. The writer believes Fields validates why he should be the Bears franchise QB for years to come.

While the offensive line held up well in pass protection, Fields was still sacked 3 times. The writer questions why the Bears didn’t use more maximum protection schemes for Fields like the Lions did for Goff. Rookie guard Nate Davis had some struggles, allowing pressures and not maintaining his blocks at times.

The Bears defense continued their strong performance in the second half, surviving some gutsy fourth down attempts from the Lions. Cornerback Jaylon Johnson had blanket coverage most of the day and safety Jaquan Brisker delivered some big hits. Newly acquired linebacker Montez Sweat also added another sack to his total. He now has 4 on the season after registering at least 7 sacks each prior year.

The writer believes if the Bears had a more aggressive, emotional coach like Detroit’s head coach Dan Campbell, their talent and record would be even better. He questions the overly conservative approach from Getsy, especially after starting drives so effectively. The defense and Fields are proving they can compete and contend. But questionable play calling on offense has held the team back from reaching their full potential.

Overall, it was an encouraging performance with the Bears defense setting the tone and Fields providing big plays. The foundation is there for Chicago to be a playoff contender if the offense and play calling can become more consistent. Developing explosive receivers like DJ Moore will help take some pressure off Fields as well. The arrow continues to point up for Chicago as they posted their second consecutive victory.
