Week 6: Bears Offense Sputters in Ugly Loss to Vikings 😣

Week 6: Bears Offense Sputters in Ugly Loss to Vikings 😣

Here’s the Quick -n- Dirrty…

  • The Bears lost 19-6 to the Vikings in a very disappointing game where the offense looked horrible. Justin Fields and the passing game struggled mightily.
  • The offensive gameplan made no sense, with barely any running plays despite having a capable back in Darrynton Evans. The playcalling was questionable.
  • The defense played decently overall, but still gave up too many plays. Eddie Jackson got injured again. The linebackers played well.
  • Justin Fields got injured and replaced by Nathan Peterman, who looked okay but had a bad fumble returned for a TD. The offense looked a bit better with Peterman.
  • Overall, the Bears looked like the worst team in the NFL right now. The fans are frustrated with the coaching staff. But we need to stick together as fans during these tough times.

Hey there, fellow Bears Fans!

The Chicago Bears dropped to 1-4 on the season after a brutal 19-6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. As a diehard Bears fan, this game was incredibly frustrating and concerning on many levels. The Bears offense looked completely inept and the playcalling left a lot to be desired.

Justin Fields Struggles in Ugly Bears Offensive Showing

Quarterback Justin Fields had a rough go of it against a fierce Vikings pass rush. Fields was sacked 4 times and threw for just 108 yards on 15 completions. He never looked comfortable in the pocket and his chemistry with receivers remains a work in progress. Fields also threw a crushing interception in the 4th quarter that sealed the game for Minnesota.

Bears Abandon Run Game Despite Capable Backs

Chicago’s gameplan was confounding, with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy seemingly abandoning the run game. The Bears have two capable backs in Khalil Herbert and Darrynton Evans, yet they barely handed them the ball. Herbert finished with just 6 carries for 13 yards. This made the offense extremely one-dimensional and allowed Minnesota to tee off on Fields.

Questionable Playcalling Dooms Bears Offense

Getsy’s questionable playcalling put Fields and the offense in tough positions. He dialed up long-developing pass plays despite Minnesota’s fierce pass rush. The Bears also ran screen plays right into the teeth of the Vikings defense. Getsy’s gameplan and playcalling was a huge factor in the offense’s struggles.

Bears Defense Solid Despite Missing Eddie Jackson

The lone bright spot was the Bears defense, which held its own despite missing safety Eddie Jackson. Roquan Smith and Nicholas Morrow delivered solid performances, helping limit Dalvin Cook and the Vikings run game. Minnesota had just 3 points heading into the 4th quarter before putting together a long scoring drive. Overall, the defense played winning football and kept Chicago in the game.

Justin Fields Injured, Nathan Peterman Struggles in Relief

The Bears suffered another big blow when Fields injured his shoulder in the 4th quarter. Backup Nathan Peterman came in and promptly fumbled on a sack, which the Vikings returned for a back-breaking touchdown. Peterman settled down after that but couldn’t lead a comeback. With Fields injured, the Bears’ future at quarterback is shrouded in uncertainty heading into Week 6.

Key Takeaways from the Bears Painful Loss

  • The offensive gameplan and playcalling failed the Bears terribly. Getsy needs to put his players in better positions to succeed.
  • Justin Fields still has a ways to go in his development. He needs to improve his pocket presence and accuracy.
  • The run game being abandoned hurt the offense’s rhythm and made them one-dimensional.
  • The offensive line play remains a glaring weakness that Fields often had little time to throw.
  • Kudos to the Bears defense for keeping them in the game despite key injuries.
  • The QB situation is up in the air with Fields hurt. Let’s hope the injury isn’t serious.

The Bears Have Reached Rock Bottom After Ugly Vikings Loss

This was clearly rock bottom for the Bears after the ugliest of ugly losses. The offense looked completely incompetent and the playcalling didn’t put them in positions to succeed. Justin Fields had his worst game yet, and is now injured. The Bears appear headed for a top 5 draft pick in 2023.

While the defense remains solid, this team has too many glaring holes right now. The offensive line play remains poor. The wide receivers aren’t winning consistently. Playcalling has been suspect. With Fields now hurt, Bears fans have to wonder if this season is essentially lost heading into the bye week.

There are no easy fixes or bandaids that can save Chicago at this point. The team needs to do some serious self-scouting and figure out a way to scheme offense that plays to their strengths. Getting Khalil Herbert and the run game more involved seems like an obvious starting point after its inexplicable absence against Minnesota.

The Bears have reached an early season low point and come out of the Vikings loss with more questions than answers. As a loyal fan, I’ll always support the team. But it’s hard to feel optimistic about the direction right now until coaching and playcalling improve across the board. There is a lot of season left, but it could be a painful rest of the year for Bears fans unless this offense takes major strides soon. For now, it’s back to the drawing board for Luke Getsy and Matt Eberflus as the Bears try to bounce back after hitting rock bottom.

Bear Down Bears fans! and as always… PEACE!
